Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) 2013 Niger Delta Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme
The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) is delighted to announce the fourth annual SPDC Niger Delta Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme for applicants from Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa States.
The objective of the scheme is to provide an opportunity for qualifying students from the three Niger Delta States to further their education in courses that are relevant to the oil and gas industry.
In the three years of the programme, 30 students have benefitted from the opportunity to study at world-renowned institutions.
2013 SPDC Niger Delta Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme
For the academic year commencing September 2013, SPDC will award up to ten scholarships for one-year post-graduate studies in partnership with three internationally recognised universities in the United Kingdom (UK) - Imperial College London, University College London and the University of Leeds.
The scholarship will cover tuition fees, one return flight ticket from Nigeria to the UK and a contribution towards living expenses only.
The courses that qualify for the scholarship at the three institutions are as follows:

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:
- display intellectual ability and leadership potential
- meet the university's language requirement (usually at least 6.5 in IELTS)
- be aged between 21-28 years
- be an indigene of Rivers, Delta or Bayelsa States (documentary proof of this will be required)
- currently reside in Nigeria
- intend to return and take up permanent residence in Nigeria after completion of the proposed programme of study
- have obtained a university degree of at least an equivalent standard to a UK Second Class Upper (Honours Degree)
- not have studied previously in the UK or any other developed country
Closing Date
Completed scholarship application forms must reach participating universities no later than February 15, 2013.
Method of Application
- Submit application for admission into any of the three universities for any of the qualifying courses
- Application forms for the scholarship will be available ONLY through the participating universities, following an offer of admission
- Universities will process application and select candidates to attend an interview before being considered for final selection

MTN Foundation Scholarship Scheme for Blind Students (2nd Phase)
The MTN Nigeria Foundation Limited by Guarantee (MTNF Ltd/Gte) was established by MTN Nigeria Communications Limited in July 2004 to drive MTN Nigeria's Corporate Social investment (CSI) initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in communities across the country.
Project Description and Location
Under the MTNF Scholarship Scheme for Blind Students, the Foundation currently provides financial support to 113 blind students in accredited public universities, polytechnics and colleges of Education across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. The scholarship award is worth N200,000.00 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira only) per student for the duration of one academic year and covers tuition, book allowance and stipend.
Application for the 2012/2013 session is now open and scholarships are available for an additional 100 blind students.
Scholarships will also be renewed for the existing 113 students provided they maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5 or its equivalent.
Project Objective
The MTN Foundation seeks to support high performing full time 200 level /2nd year or 300 level /3rd year blind students in public universities, colleges of education and qualifying students in public polytechnics. The scholarship is aimed at recognizing and rewarding academic excellence while providing financial assistance to blind students who might otherwise be unable to pay for their tertiary education,

70 Students on BEA Scholarships Were Dispatched to China, Russia by FG
The Federal Government has dispatched a total of 70 indigent Nigerian students, who bagged the 2012 Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) scholarships to China and Russia.
The students bagged the scholarships under the Bilateral Educational Agreement between Nigeria and 21 other foreign countries.
Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa'i, who spoke in Abuja, at the orientation preceding the departure of the students, on Wednesday, urged them to work hard and be of good conduct in order to excel in their studies.
Rufa'i noted that there was significant increase in the scholarship awards this year, in spite of the global downturn, saying a total of 210 scholarship offers had been issued to Nigerian students by the development partners for the 2012/2013 academic session.
"Out of this, four beneficiaries have since arrived China to study Medicine. Today, we are here for the departure of 70 scholars to China and Russia," she said.
According to her, the government had, in a bid to strengthen bilateral agreement with development partners and develop manpower needs, in 1999, revitalised the federal scholarship scheme by investing more in both national and international programmes.
Rufa'i said as of 2012, Russia had increased the number of offers to 70 annually, while China maintained 25 at every instance.
Other countries, which had also continuously issue scholarship offers to Nigeria annually, according to the minister, are Cuba, China, Japan, Morocco, Turkey, Ukraine, Serbia, Romania and Algeria.
The Director of the Federal Scholarship Board, Mrs Hindatu Abdullahi, said Nigeria would have lost about 153 slots to the keen contest by other competing countries, but for the timely intervention of the Federal Government.
Abdullahi said for the 2012 fiscal year, N968,146,476 was approved by Government to service the scheme both at home and abroad.
She explained that under the agreement, the host countries would bear the cost of tuition and accommodation as well as provide a "little” stipend for the students, while Nigeria would provide warm clothing and monthly allowances, pay the travel and administrative expenses and feeding costs.
She noted that the scheme was meant for brilliant and indigent Nigerians whose parents could not afford to sponsor them to study abroad.
The director said that all the beneficiaries had distinctions at one sitting in the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) or National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.
She urged the students to make very good use of the opportunity offered by the Federal Government to study and preserve the good image of the country.
"There would be no room for extension of scholarship awards owing to incompetence," she said.
Abdullahi said apart from the 70 scholars departing on Thursday night, four others had left for Cuba to study medicine. (NAN)

NITDA SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME 2012/2013
Criteria
The scholarship award is strictly based on merit and covers equally the six geo-political zones for PhD and the 36 States and FCT for M.sc.
Duration:
The Masters programme will run for one year while the Doctorate programme is expected to run for three years.
