International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) Job Vacancy :::: Computer Programmer/Analyst

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals for the following position at the Institute’s Headquarters, Ibadan.

Job Title: Computer Programmer/Analyst (2-year renewable contract)

Duties:

Successful candidate will among other things:

Analyse, design and deploy/install software packages, applications and databases.
Design and implement ad-hoc solutions to meet immediate user needs.
Evaluate specific vendor-supplied software and propose changes required to suit the needs of the Institute
Implement data structures and databases according to agreed specifications
Code and test-run in-house developed applications
Deploy fully tested applications in the production environment
Document the system and writer user manuals for the end-users
Provide training and support to the end-users to enable them work fairly independently on their own.
Build (other) sub-systems around vendor supplied packages to handle aspects of the Institute’s information needs which are incorporated in such proprietary products.

Qualification and Experience:

B.Sc. in Computer Science or related IT discipline. Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in robust computer applications programming and system analysis, with emphasis on Business and Management systems.
Programming experience on web-based tools: ASP, ASP.NET, ASP.NET.MVC, Java, JavaScript, AJAX, ORACLE application development tools (PL/SQL, Forms, Reports, Toad etc) is important.
Experience in relational database systems: ORACLE 11g, SQL Server 2005/2008, etc is desirable.
Experience on using modern server operating systems, such as: Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008, and UNIX (and its variants like Sun Solaris, Linux, etc) would be an advantage.

Be able to communicate clearly and unambiguously in speech and in writing
Be alert, level-headed and possess high intellectual capability
Possess a clear analytical mind, innovative and be able to work with minimum supervision.
