Minister of Youth Dev. Says 67 Million Nigerian Youths Are Jobless
A shocking revelation came yesterday from the Minister of Youth Development, Mallam
Bolaji Abdullahi that at least 67 million Nigerian youths are jobless, of this mammoth figure, four out of every five do not hold a degree.
The minister stated this in Benin City where he addressed youths at the TY Danjuma Foundation (TYDF), during its "Career Day" held in Benin City with the theme: "Developing capacity of youths to build successful career and business."
The minister attributed the high rate of unemployment to ten years of neglect at different levels of government, adding that without the requisite skills, it would be difficult to secure a job.
The minister reiterated the need for skill acquisition and entrepreneurial skill development "irrespective of educational qualification."
According to him: "Employers of labour are more interested in what you can do and not what certificate you hold."
He stated that the Federal Government has earmarked a sum of N1.2 billion in the 2012 budget to train and give grants to youths in agriculture, information and communication technology as well as creative arts.
